And what a year it was....

2024 was a pretty good year creatively.  Numerous gigs, a small tour and a new album release were definitely the highlights.  Songwriting still occurred, but the songs came at a slower pace this year.  In all truthfulness, I would rather get 4 or 5 good songs as opposed to 15 mediocre ones in the course of a year. As I continue to ponder where and how I fit into the music scene, I am constantly reminded of how much I love songwriting; exhausting and frustrating as it is.

My songwriting career can be divided into portions, which is probably true for most songwriters. Pre 2014, you would find most of the things I had written being played in a worship setting.  As recent as 2013, I put out a Christmas album.  Those songs and the ones on an earlier release are still out there in the musical ecosphere, but I no longer write songs in the the religious or inspirational genre.  I have had to reconcile that part of my creative life to the current, where I tend to write more observational and/or personal songs.  Introspection can open the door to a spiritual connection to something, but honestly, I'm just trying to write good songs from where I stand today.

My intention is to start releasing new songs one at a time, instead of trying to put together an album every year or so.  I think this will take the pressure off and get more songs into the ether that can float around until they land with someone.

2025 will hold its own set of challenges and opportunities to be sure.  As a creative person, I welcome all of it, because there's probably a song in there somewhere....
