The Songs

All of my songs come from essentially the same place - the desire to tell a story.  I am not a disciplined writer who writes everyday - I found that to be a futile process for me, personally.  I am a "sit and wait" kind of writer.  If I am open, the muse will come; and when it does, it is usually bringing the right song at the right time.

My first release in February of 2019 was an EP of stripped down acoustic story-songs, titled "Just a Few Songs..."  Here you will find "Phoenix" and "Bourbon Soaked Shirt" from that release.  Two very different songs, telling two very different stories.

The track "9,000 Stars" is from 2020 album, "Wait for the Sun".  It is the closing track of this project, which is also a stripped-down collection of songs with vocal, guitar, piano and a few lush background vocals tossed in.

At the end of 2023 and through the early part of 2024, my friend and collaborator from England, Tony James Shevlin and I recorded songs for  the project "Celtic Midwestern" - a collaboration of songs written by each of us individually and co-writes.  What made this project unique was that it was recorded across an ocean at two different studios, with two different engineers (Ian Crow in England and Bob Fitch in Iowa).  Tony and I recorded songs and sent them to each other for musical embellishments and harmonies.   June of 2024 saw the release of the record and a tour that took us across Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama,  This project was a combination of Irish and Midwestern infusions into traditional story songs.  It was one of my most memorable projects in recent years.

"Hallowed Ground" is a song I wrote about my first time in Muscle shoals, AL.
